About Me

My name is Christie Bethel and I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I have been teaching at Banks Road Elementary since it opened up in 2009. My current teaching experience includes teaching first grade at Willow Springs Elementary and 2nd grade at Lillington Shawtown Elementary. I am a Fuquay native, but now call Apex home. I love animals, especially my cat Bootsie and my parent's yellow lab Lucy. I completed my first half-marathon in April 2011. So when I'm not at school, you will find me at the gym or on a trail running or playing soccer with my friends. I was honored to be selected as Banks Road Elementary's Teacher of the Year for 2013-2014.

Spelling and Writing
Sight Words this Week:

away    children    can’t    because    boy

1.      Practice writing each word 5 times in your best handwriting. (Use the blue handwriting sheet in the back of the homework folder to make sure lines are being used correctly.)

2.     Write a short story using all of the sight words for the week.  Make sure the story makes sense and has complete thoughts, in addition to capitals and periods. (Please underline the sight words in the story.)

*Please make sure your child is taking their time and using their neatest handwriting.  I want them to take pride in their work!

Reading
Read your “Book in a Bag” to Mom or Dad and parents complete the Parent Participation Sheet.  Take time to really work through the questions with your child.  Eventually they will be able to answer most of the questions without much prompting.  Your child should continue to read their “Book in a Bag” several times throughout the week;

Phonics
Do the worksheet “Rhyme Time”.  Find 4 words in your book and write a word that rhymes with it.  Then draw a picture for each word.
*For an added bonus, write more words that rhyme with your word from the book.

Reminder:  Please return your assignments, completed with your name on it, in your Homework Folder on Friday morning!  J
