This week in Social Studies, we learned that Social Studies is the study of “me”, being the individual, and “we”, being other people; like what they look like, what they do, and where they live. We also made and colored our “Mini-Me’s” which will help the students learn about themselves, their families, our school, and our community throughout the school year.
In math, we have been focusing on the numbers 7, 8, and 9. We have learned the partners for them and also the switch partners. Even though we switch the numbers around, it still gives us the same answer. For example, if we had 5 and 3 gives us 8; we could switch it to say 3 and 5 gives us 8. We also learned the term equal. For example, 8 can be equal because it can have the partner of 4 and 4. But 7 and 9 cannot have equal partners.
In Wilson’s Fundations, we have worked on learning the letters o, g, d, s, e, u, l, h, and k this week. Once we have learned these letters, I expect the students to form them correctly in their name as well as in their writing. Keep up the great work!
In reading, we worked on making reading goals for this school year. These are goals that we are going to be checking back on throughout the year to see the progress we have made. We also learned how to take care of the books in our classroom library.
In writing, we have been focusing on stretching out words and writing down the sounds they hear. This is a great tool to use for homework too. As the year goes on, we will learn more about phonemic rules and our spelling will improve, but this is a great tool to always use. The last thing I want a student to do is stay stuck on a word.
